The opening and closing part of the J41T cast iron stop valve is a stopper disc. The sealing surface is flat or conical, and the disc moves linearly along the centerline of the valve seat. The opening or closing stroke of the valve stem of the stop valve is relatively short, and it has a cut-off action, making it suitable for use as a medium cut-off, regulation and throttling device.

Cast iron stop valves are of the forced sealing type. Therefore, when the valve is closed, pressure must be applied to the valve disc to force the sealing surface not to leak. Since the emergence of self-sealing valves, the medium flow direction of stop valves has changed to enter the valve cavity from above the valve disc. At this time, under the action of medium pressure, the force required to close the valve is small, while the force required to open the valve is large, and the diameter of the valve stem can be reduced accordingly. Meanwhile, under the action of the medium, this type of valve is also relatively tight.

Cast iron stop valves are a commonly used type of shut-off valve, mainly used to open or cut off the medium in pipelines, and are generally not used to regulate flow. Cast iron stop valves have a wide range of applicable pressures and temperatures, but they are generally used for medium and small diameter pipelines. Compared with gate valves, globe valves have a simpler structure, are easier to maintain, their sealing surfaces are less prone to wear and scratches, have better sealing performance, a longer service life, a smaller disc travel during opening and closing, a shorter opening and closing time, and a smaller valve height.
