### **Product Introduction: Permalloy Wire**
**Permalloy Wire** is a specialized soft magnetic nickel-iron alloy in wire form, engineered for applications requiring a combination of excellent magnetic properties, flexibility, and a high length-to-cross-section ratio. Retaining the hallmark characteristics of the Permalloy family—exceptionally high magnetic permeability and low coercivity—the wire form factor enables its use in miniature inductors, advanced sensors, and specialized shielding applications where traditional laminations or cores are not feasible.
Our Permalloy Wire is produced with precise dimensional tolerances and can be supplied in various tempers and with specific insulation coatings to meet demanding electrical and mechanical requirements.

#### **4. International Standards**
Our Permalloy Wire is manufactured to comply with key international standards for chemical and dimensional consistency.
* **ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials):**
* **ASTM A753 / A753M:** "Standard Specification for Nickel-Iron Soft Magnetic Alloys." This is the primary standard for the alloy's chemistry and general requirements.
* **ASTM B258:** "Standard Specification for Standard Nominal Diameters and Cross-Sectional Areas of AWG Sizes of Solid Round Wires..." for dimensional reference.
* **IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission):**
* **IEC 60404-8-6:** "Magnetic materials - Part 8-6: Specifications for individual materials - Soft magnetic metallic materials."
* **Military Standards (USA):**
* **MIL-N-14411C:** Covers nickel-iron soft magnetic alloys for core applications.
* **Wire-Specific Standards:**
* **NEMA MW 1000 / J-W-1177:** Standards for magnet wire insulation systems.
* **DIN 17470:** German standard for precision alloys.

#### **5. Key Advantages & Handling Notes**
* **High Permeability in a Linear Form:** Enables the design of sensors and inductors with unique form factors.
* **Flexibility and Strength:** Can be wound, woven, or formed into complex shapes, especially in the hard-drawn temper.
* **Tailored Magnetic Properties:** A final hydrogen annealing process after winding is essential to develop the ultimate soft magnetic properties in the final component geometry.
* **Enhanced Resistivity (Mo-Permalloy):** The molybdenum variant significantly reduces eddy current losses at higher frequencies.
**Critical Handling Consideration:** The supreme soft magnetic properties of Permalloy Wire are highly sensitive to mechanical stress. Cold working (drawing) increases strength but degrades magnetic softness. Therefore, components wound from hard-drawn wire **must undergo a final hydrogen anneal** to relieve stresses and achieve the published magnetic permeability and coercivity values.
**Our technical team can provide guidance on wire selection, winding techniques, and the critical annealing process to ensure your components perform to their maximum potential.**
