The alloy work hardens during cold working operations, requiring intermediate annealing at 980-1150°C (1800-2100°F) for severe deformations. For optimal high-temperature performance, a final solution annealing treatment at 1150-1200°C (2100-2190°F) followed by rapid cooling is recommended. The material develops a protective chromium oxide scale during initial heating that provides long-term oxidation protection. Proper cleaning and handling procedures should be maintained to prevent surface contamination that could affect high-temperature performance.
