### **Product Datasheet: CZ-100 Cast Nickel Alloy (UNS N02100)** **A Commercially Pure Nickel Casting Alloy for Severe Corrosion and High-Temperature Service** --- #### **1. Overview** **CZ-100** (UNS N02100) is a commercially pure nickel casting alloy that provides excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties across a wide temperature range. As the cast equivalent of wrought Nickel 200 (UNS N02200), this alloy maintains the fundamental characteristics of pure nickel while offering the design flexibility of the casting process. The alloy exhibits outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis, alkaline salts, and various reducing chemicals. It demonstrates good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, along with useful mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to approximately 315°C (600°F). Above this temperature, the low-carbon version (CZ-100 Low Carbon) is recommended to prevent embrittlement. --- #### **2. Chemical Composition (Typical Weight %)** | Element | Content (%) | Role in the Alloy | |---------|-------------|-------------------| | **Nickel (Ni)** | ≥ 95.0 | Provides corrosion resistance and forms the matrix | | **Copper (Cu)** | ≤ 0.25 | Residual element | | **Iron (Fe)** | ≤ 1.0 | Residual element | | **Manganese (Mn)** | ≤ 1.0 | Aids in manufacturability | | **Carbon (C)** | ≤ 0.35 | Higher than wrought version for castability | | **Silicon (Si)** | ≤ 1.0 | Improves castability | | **Sulfur (S)** | ≤ 0.025 | Controlled impurity | *Note: The carbon content in CZ-100 is typically higher than in wrought Nickel 200 to improve castability and fluidity.* --- #### **3. Physical Properties (Typical)** | Property | Value / Condition | |----------|-------------------| | **Density** | 8.89 g/cm³ (0.321 lb/in³) | | **Melting Range** | 1435-1445 °C (2615-2635 °F) | | **Thermal Expansion Coefficient** | 13.3 μm/m·°C (20-100°C) | | **Thermal Conductivity** | 67 W/m·K (at 100°C) | | **Modulus of Elasticity** | 186 GPa (27×10⁶ psi) - Cast | | **Electrical Resistivity** | 0.11 μΩ·m | | **Magnetic Response** | Essentially non-magnetic | --- #### **4. Mechanical Properties (As-Cast Condition)** **Room Temperature Properties:** * **Tensile Strength**: 345-485 MPa (50-70 ksi) * **Yield Strength (0.2% Offset)**: 170-275 MPa (25-40 ksi) * **Elongation**: 20-35% * **Hardness**: 110-170 HB **Elevated Temperature Performance:** * Maintains good strength up to 315°C (600°F) * Useful mechanical properties at cryogenic temperatures --- #### **5. Corrosion Resistance** **CZ-100 offers excellent performance in:** * **Caustic Environments**: Outstanding resistance to all concentrations of sodium hydroxide * **Alkaline Salts**: Excellent performance in carbonate and other alkaline salt solutions * **Neutral Salts**: Good resistance to chloride and other neutral salt solutions * **Organic Compounds**: Excellent resistance to various organic chemicals * **Marine Atmosphere**: Good performance in marine environments **Limitations:** * Not recommended for oxidizing acids or ammonium salts * Performance in acidic media depends on specific conditions --- #### **6. Product Applications** **Chemical Processing Industry:** * Caustic soda evaporators and concentrators * Alkaline salt processing equipment * Reaction vessels for organic chemical production * Transfer piping and valves for corrosive chemicals **Food and Pharmaceutical Processing:** * Evaporator bodies and components * Mixing kettles and reaction vessels * Product transfer systems **Other Applications:** * Components for synthetic fiber production * Marine hardware and fittings * Specialized pump casings and impellers * Valve bodies for corrosive service --- #### **7. International Standards** * **Cast Alloy Specifications**: * **UNS N02100**: Cast version * **ASTM A494/A494M**: Standard specification for castings * **Grade CZ-100**: Common commercial designation * **Wrought Equivalent**: * **UNS N02200**: Wrought Nickel 200 * **ASTM B162**: Plate, sheet, and strip * **ASTM B160**: Rod and bar * **ASTM B161**: Seamless pipe and tube * **Additional Certifications**: * ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code * ISO 6208 for wrought nickel alloys * Various international pressure equipment standards --- **Technical Note:** CZ-100 castings offer design flexibility for complex components that would be difficult or expensive to fabricate from wrought Nickel 200. The casting process allows for integrated features and complex geometries while maintaining the essential corrosion resistance of pure nickel. For service temperatures above 315°C (600°F), consider the low-carbon variant to prevent embrittlement due to graphitization. Always consult with the foundry regarding specific heat treatment requirements and mechanical property expectations for your application. *Nickel 200 is a registered trademark. CZ-100 is the standard designation for cast versions of this commercially pure nickel alloy.*
