### **Technical Datasheet: Nickel 200 Rod (UNS N02200)**
#### **1. Product Overview**
**Nickel 200 Rod** (also known as **Alloy 200 Rod**) is a wrought product form manufactured from commercially pure (99.6% min) nickel. This rod offers an exceptional combination of high thermal and electrical conductivity, excellent mechanical properties, and superior corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments, particularly caustic alkalis and reducing atmospheres.
As a solid-solution strengthened alloy, Nickel 200 rod is known for its good machinability and weldability, making it a preferred choice for manufacturing critical components like shafts, fasteners, valves, and electrodes. It retains its strength and ductility from cryogenic temperatures up to approximately 315°C (600°F).
**Important Note:** For high-temperature service above 315°C (600°F), **Nickel 201 Rod (UNS N02201)** is recommended. The lower carbon content of Nickel 201 prevents embrittlement due to grain-boundary carbide formation.
#### **2. Chemical Composition (% Weight)**
The composition conforms to standard specifications for rod and bar products like ASTM B160.
| Element | Content (%) (ASTM B160) | Content (%) (Typical) |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **Nickel (Ni)** | 99.0 min | ≥ 99.6 |
| **Carbon (C)** | 0.15 max | 0.08 |
| **Manganese (Mn)** | 0.35 max | 0.20 |
| **Iron (Fe)** | 0.40 max | 0.20 |
| **Copper (Cu)** | 0.25 max | 0.15 |
| **Silicon (Si)** | 0.35 max | 0.15 |
| **Sulfur (S)** | 0.01 max | 0.005 |

#### **5. International Standards for Rod & Bar**
Nickel 200 Rod is supplied according to the following international standards:
| Standard Organization | Standard Number | Title |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **ASTM International** | **ASTM B160** | Standard Specification for Nickel Rod and Bar |
| **ASME** | **SB-160** | Nickel Rod and Bar (for pressure vessel components) |
| **SAE** | **AMS 5556** | Bar, Nickel Alloy, Corrosion and Heat-Resistant |
| **UNS** | **N02200** | Unified Numbering System |
| **EN (Europe)** | **EN 10095** | Ni 99.2 (Material Code 2.4066) |
#### **6. Key Characteristics & Advantages of Nickel 200 Rod**
* **Excellent Corrosion Resistance:** Outstanding performance in caustic alkalis, neutral salts, and reducing chemicals. Resists chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
* **High Machinability:** Compared to many nickel alloys, Nickel 200 rod has good machinability (approximately 30% relative to free-cutting brass), allowing for the production of precise components.
* **Good Weldability:** Can be readily welded using common techniques such as GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW (Stick).
* **Favorable Magnetic Properties:** Ferromagnetic at room temperature but becomes non-magnetic above its Curie temperature of ~360°C (680°F).
* **Cryogenic to Moderate Temperature Performance:** Maintains excellent toughness and ductility at very low temperatures and useful strength up to 315°C (600°F).
