### **Technical Datasheet: Nickel 200 Tube (UNS N02200)** #### **1. Product Overview** **Nickel 200 Tube** (also known as **Alloy 200 Tube**) is a versatile wrought product manufactured from commercially pure nickel (99.6% minimum). Available in both seamless and welded forms, this tubing is specifically engineered for applications requiring exceptional corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and reliable performance in demanding service conditions. Nickel 200 Tube demonstrates outstanding resistance to reducing chemicals, caustic environments, and various corrosive media. The material maintains excellent mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions up to approximately **315°C (600°F)**. Its combination of strength, ductility, and fabricability makes it ideal for heat exchangers, instrumentation, and process systems. **Important Note:** For continuous high-temperature service above 315°C (600°F), **Nickel 201 Tube (UNS N02201)** is recommended due to its lower carbon content, which prevents embrittlement from grain-boundary carbide formation. #### **2. Chemical Composition (% Weight)** Composition meets standard specifications for tube products including ASTM B161 and ASTM B163. | Element | Content (%) (ASTM Standards) | Content (%) (Typical) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Nickel (Ni)** | 99.0 min | ≥ 99.6 | | **Carbon (C)** | 0.15 max | 0.08 | | **Manganese (Mn)** | 0.35 max | 0.20 | | **Iron (Fe)** | 0.40 max | 0.20 | | **Copper (Cu)** | 0.25 max | 0.15 | | **Silicon (Si)** | 0.35 max | 0.15 | | **Sulfur (S)** | 0.01 max | 0.005 | #### **3. Physical Properties** | Property | Metric Unit | Imperial Unit | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Density** | 8.89 g/cm³ | 0.321 lb/in³ | | **Melting Point** | 1435-1445 °C | 2615-2633 °F | | **Thermal Conductivity** (at 25°C) | 70 W/m·K | 485 BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F | | **Electrical Resistivity** | 0.095 µΩ·m | 36.5 µΩ·in | | **Modulus of Elasticity** | 186 GPa | 27 x 10⁶ psi | | **Thermal Expansion Coefficient** (20-100°C) | 13.3 µm/m·°C | 7.4 x 10⁻⁶ in/in·°F | | **Curie Temperature** | ~ 360 °C | ~ 680 °F | #### **4. International Standards for Tube** Nickel 200 Tube conforms to various international standards covering different manufacturing methods and applications. | Standard Organization | Standard Number | Title / Scope | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **ASTM International** | **ASTM B161** | Standard Specification for Nickel Seamless Pipe and Tube | | **ASTM International** | **ASTM B163** | Seamless Nickel and Nickel Alloy Condenser and Heat-Exchanger Tubes | | **ASTM International** | **ASTB B725/B725M** | Welded Nickel and Nickel Alloy Tubes | | **ASME** | **SB-161** | Nickel Seamless Pipe and Tube | | **ASME** | **SB-163** | Seamless Nickel and Nickel Alloy Condenser Tubes | | **ASME** | **SB-725** | Welded Nickel and Nickel Alloy Tubes | | **UNS** | **N02200** | Unified Numbering System | | **EN (Europe)** | **EN 10305-4 / DIN 17750** | Ni 99.2 (Material Number 2.4066) | #### **6. Key Characteristics & Advantages** * **Exceptional Corrosion Resistance:** Superior performance in caustic environments (sodium/potassium hydroxide), reducing acids, and neutral salt solutions. Highly resistant to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. * **Excellent Heat Transfer Properties:** High thermal conductivity makes it ideal for heat exchanger, condenser, and heater applications. * **Superior Fabricability:** Can be easily bent, expanded, flared, and welded using standard techniques. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) with Nickel 200 filler metal (ERNi-1) is commonly employed. * **Low Gas Permeability:** Provides excellent containment for hydrogen and other gases, crucial for instrumentation and aerospace applications. * **Cryogenic Compatibility:** Maintains excellent mechanical properties and ductility at extremely low temperatures. * **Magnetic Properties:** Ferromagnetic at room temperature, transitioning to non-magnetic above its Curie temperature (~360°C/680°F). #### **7. Product Applications** Nickel 200 Tube serves critical functions across multiple industries: * **Heat Exchangers & Condensers:** * Tube bundles for shell-and-tube heat exchangers * Condenser tubes in chemical processing and power generation * Evaporator and reboller tubes * **Chemical Processing:** * Process fluid transfer lines * Instrumentation and sensing tubing * Sampling lines for corrosive media * Caustic service equipment * **Aerospace & Defense:** * Hydraulic line tubing * Fuel and oil system lines * Pneumatic instrumentation systems * **Pharmaceutical & Food Processing:** * High-purity fluid transfer systems * Heat exchanger tubes for sanitary applications * Process lines requiring product purity * **Industrial Applications:** * Burner tubes and furnace components * Electrical conduit in corrosive environments * Nuclear energy instrumentation --- **Disclaimer:** The information provided is for technical reference only.
