### **Product Introduction: Magnesium Yttrium Master Alloy (Mg-Y Alloy)** **Product Names:** * Magnesium Yttrium Master Alloy * Mg-Y Alloy * MgY Alloy #### **Overview** Magnesium Yttrium Master Alloy is a high-performance alloying agent specifically designed for the introduction of Yttrium (Y) into magnesium (Mg) melts. Yttrium is a rare-earth element known for its powerful ability to enhance the high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys. Our Mg-Y Master Alloy provides a reliable and efficient method for foundries and metallurgical plants to produce advanced, high-specification magnesium-yttrium alloys with precise chemical composition control and excellent recoverability of the valuable yttrium element. #### **Key Features & Advantages** * **Significant Property Enhancement:** Dramatically improves high-temperature mechanical properties, creep resistance, and corrosion resistance of final magnesium components. * **Excellent Oxidation Resistance:** Yttrium promotes the formation of a stable, protective surface oxide layer. * **Improved Melt Handling:** Enhances the fluidity and castability of magnesium melts. * **Precise Composition Control:** Allows for accurate and uniform addition of yttrium, ensuring consistent and reproducible alloy properties. * **High Yttrium Yield:** Optimized manufacturing process ensures maximum recovery of yttrium into the final alloy, improving cost-efficiency. --- ### **Chemical Composition** Our Mg-Y Master Alloy is available in standard grades with varying yttrium content to meet different application needs. Typical compositions are as follows: | Element | Mg-Y20 | Mg-Y25 | Mg-Y30 | Impurities (Max.) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Y (Yttrium)** | 18.0 - 22.0% | 23.0 - 27.0% | 28.0 - 32.0% | - | | **Mg (Magnesium)** | Balance | Balance | Balance | - | | **Fe (Iron)** | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | 0.02% | | **Si (Silicon)** | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | 0.02% | | **Cu (Copper)** | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | ≤ 0.01% | 0.01% | | **Ni (Nickel)** | ≤ 0.002% | ≤ 0.002% | ≤ 0.002% | 0.005% | | **Other RE** | ≤ 0.05% | ≤ 0.05% | ≤ 0.05% | 0.10% | *Note: Custom compositions with specific yttrium content and impurity levels can be developed upon request.* --- ### **Physical Properties** | Property | Typical Value / Description | | :--- | :--- | | **Form** | Ingot, Notched Ingot, Lump | | **Ingot Size** | Customizable (e.g., 5-10 kg per ingot) | | **Color** | Metallic Gray | | **Melting Point** | Varies with Y content; approximately **~600°C - 650°C** | | **Density** | Varies with Y content; approximately **~1.8 - 2.0 g/cm³** | --- ### **Applications** Mg-Y Master Alloy is primarily used to create high-strength, heat-resistant magnesium alloys for demanding applications, particularly in the aerospace, automotive, and defense industries. * **Aerospace Industry:** * Engine components: gearboxes, transmission housings. * Aircraft cockpit support structures. * Helicopter transmission systems. * **Automotive Industry:** * High-performance engine blocks and cylinder heads. * Powertrain components. * Parts for turbochargers and other high-temperature environments. * **Defense & Military:** * Lightweight armor components. * Casing for portable electronics and communication devices. * **General Engineering:** * Components for high-speed machinery requiring low inertia and good damping capacity. The resulting wrought and cast alloys, such as **WE43 (Mg-4Y-3RE)** and **WE54 (Mg-5Y-4RE)**, are industry standards derived from the use of Mg-Y master alloys. --- ### **International Standards** Our Mg-Y Master Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed the requirements of several international standards for magnesium-rare earth alloys. * **ASTM International:** * **ASTM B93/B93M:** Standard Specification for Magnesium Alloys in Ingot Form for Sand Castings, Permanent Mold Castings, and Die Castings. This standard covers alloys like WE43 and WE54, which require yttrium. * **SAE International:** * **SAE AMS 4427:** Magnesium Alloy Castings, 4.0Y - 3.0Rare Earth - 0.5Zr (WE43A-T6), Sand Cast, Solution and Precipitation Heat Treated. * **SAE AMS 4428:** Magnesium Alloy Castings, 4.0Y - 3.0Rare Earth - 0.5Zr (WE43A-T5), Sand Cast, Artificially Aged. * **European Standards (EN):** * **EN 1753:** Magnesium and magnesium alloys - Magnesium alloy ingots and castings. This standard includes specifications for Mg-Y-RE-Zr alloys. * **Chinese Standards (GB):** * **GB/T 19078:** Standard for Magnesium Alloy Ingots. This includes specifications for various yttrium-containing magnesium alloys. --- ### **Packaging & Handling** * **Packaging:** Packed in sealed, moisture-proof plastic bags or lined steel drums to prevent oxidation and contamination. * **Storage:** Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from oxidizers and acids. * **Handling:** Standard industrial safety practices should be followed. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves and safety glasses. The alloy is stable under normal conditions but may release hydrogen gas upon contact with water or acids. --- **Contact Us:** For specific technical data sheets, pricing, or to discuss custom alloy requirements, please contact our sales and technical team. ---
